All Burke County Public Schools students are now covered under a Pre-K-12 accident insurance program should they become injured during a school-sponsored event. The Burke County Board of Education recently approved the district-paid coverage policy as a secondary insurance policy for students and student athletes. The policy covers students during school time activities and athletes during sports activities and kicks in after any other insurance policies have been paid. The plan was purchased through QBE and cost $28,475.

Burke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry Putnam said, “This is a key investment in the wellbeing of our students. Our top priority is the safety of our students but sometimes accidents happen and injuries occur. This insurance provides an extra layer of coverage and hopefully some peace of mind for parents. QBE is committed to working with us to offer affordable coverage to school families. It’s quick and easy to enroll online and could save you and your family costly medical expenses.”

The coverage provides limited benefits for specific injuries sustained when school is in session and during events on or off campus, including field trips and sporting events. It does act as the primary insurance if the student is not covered under any other policy

Families may also take out parent-paid supplemental insurance coverage on their students through QBE. It provides benefits for specific injuries away from school. Parent-paid accident plans and options include 24-hour coverage, at-school coverage, extended dental coverage and football coverage. Online enrollment is available at www.k12studentinsurance.com and payments are accepted online.
